Accountability through Efficient Service Delivery, an Antidote for the Fight against Corruption in MDAs—Dr Mu’azu.

The Permanent Secretary Ministry of Mines and Steel Development has identified efficient and accountable service delivery as panacea to the cankerworm of corruption ravaging the public sector businesses,

Abdulkadir Mu’azu who was represented by the Director, Reform Coordination and Service Improvement, Mr. Atte Zacchaus, made this known when he declared open a one-day sensitization workshop with the Theme ‘Nipping Corruption on the board in MMSD,’ organized by the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit of the ministry recently in Abuja.

Mu’azu said that the effort of the management is to ensure that opportunities are not provided for corruption to thrive in the ministry hence the need to expose the staff to various ways by which corruption can be averted.

Dr. Mu’azu thanked the Head of ACTU, Umar Adamu Soho and his team for their well-planned workshop. He promised that the management will do its best to encourage the unit in the fight against corruption.

The Permanent Secretary enjoined the participants to utilize the opportunity to equip themselves with the relevant skills for identifying and averting corruption considering the excellent and proficiency of the resource persons engaged in the workshop.

Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman of Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Professor Bolaji Owasaonye who was represented by an Assistant Commissioner in the commission, Justin Kuatsea, as well as one of the resources persons for the workshop said that the Buhari-led administration’s  choice of MMSD as one of the major agents of driving the economic diversification policy has made it imperative to maintain a zero tolerance for corruption in the ministry. He pointed out that ACTU in all MDA is regarded an extension of ICPC.

Owasaonye charged members of ACTU to be worthy Ambassadors of the commission by performing the watch-dog role in the ministry thereby sustaining a corrupt free mining and steel sector.
