FG Poised to Rewrite the History of the Metal Sector- Bwari

The Minister of Mines and Steel Development has said that the Federal Government is poised to rewrite the history of the metal sector before the end of the present administration.

The Minister stated this at the 2nd edition of the Nigeria Metallurgical Industry Stakeholders Forum with the theme: Nigerias Economic Growth: Industrial Development through Value Addition in the Metal Sector, Organised by the Ministry of Mines and Steel Development, today in Abuja.

Hon, Bwari enumerated some efforts taken by the Ministry to ensure a bright future from the sector.

These include the resolution of some of the legal issues surrounding the Ajaokuta Steel Complex to enable the plant commence Transportation to ensure the provision of transportation by the recent completion of a standard railway gauge.

The Federal Government has commissioned the Rolling Mill of Delta Steel Coy Ltd, Aladja and further changes will soon be noticed there.

The Rapid implementation of the Ministry’s approved Mining roadmap and the initiation of strategic plans for the metal sector in the Implementation and Strategy Team (MIST) have also helped in making Nigeria a better mining destination.

Organising the Stakeholders Forum on the Sector is equally important to discuss the way forward for the industry.

The Minister at the Forum suggested the formation of the Metallurgical Operators, Association of Nigeria (MOAN), for regular interfere between the industry’s stakeholders on one side and the good on the other side.

According to him, the MOAN will consist of the following categories;

  • Manufacturers of Steel and other Metal product
  • Foundry Operators
  • Fabricators and Mechinists
  • Distributors and Importers of Metal products and materials
  • Raw materials processors and
  • Welders of different categories; and
  • All other related metallurgical outputs not mentioned above.
