The outgoing Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Dr. Kayode Fayemi on Wednesday June 6, 2018, officially handed over the baton of leadership of the Ministry to the Minister of State, Hon. Abubakar Bawa Bwari.
In his remarks, Dr. Fayemi said it was a pleasure and privilege to serve the nation, the people and the Ministry in that capacity and thanked the President for the opportunity given to him to contribute his quota in improving the Mining Sector.
He said during his three years in the Ministry, he has learnt the rudiments of mining, geology and metallurgy. The Minister noted that though there have been significant improvement in the mining sector, there is still a lot to be done to ensure mining becomes a major factor in the development agenda of the country.
He enjoined the management and staff of the Ministry to extend the support and cooperation given to him to the Acting Minister and the Permanent Secretary to take the Ministry to a greater height.
The Acting Minister in his remark said he had a very good working relationship with the outgoing Minister and Dr. Fayemi will be remembered for his tremendous contributions in the improvement of the mining sector. “Dr. Fayemi will be missed in the international fora and the Ministry for his contribution in raising the profile of the Ministry and boosting the moral of staff” he added.
He wished Dr. Fayemi all the best in his feature endeavours and greater assignment in future.
Earlier the Permanent Secretary noted that it was a privilege to work with the two Ministers who had a good working relationship and saw themselves as brothers.
